11th October 2021 / Prue Fletcher: Simple Ways to Freshen Up Your Home this Spring

They are things that have been around for quite a while, but it's taken until now for us to have enough time on our hands to organise our homes, and lives, accordingly.

When it comes to selling, buyers are visual and emotional beings. Emotions propel and play an important role when it comes to the decision making process. The preparation stage of a sale can be both cleansing & therapeutic for an owner, as they prepare their property for life-after-them. Yet by doing so, it helps a purchaser visualise themselves in what potentially could be their dream home.

Research suggests that "clutter and mess are linked to negative emotions like confusion, tension, and irritability while an organized home tends to produce more positive emotions like calmness and a sense of well-being".

Here are some simple ways to not only prepare your home seamlessly for a Spring sale, but also help shift the energy too!

Now is a perfect time, while you're stuck at home, to arrange your books according to the colour of the book spine. After all, no one looks like they have their life together more than those that host their zoom chat in front of a perfectly-organised bookshelf.

Not only is it satisfying once you've finished, but the exercise can count as your mindfulness activity for the day, and it could be a great way to occupy the kids for a few minutes.

Engage Your Senses

What better time than to fill your homes with flowers than when they are in abundance! Talk a leisurely stroll around your neighbourhood this Spring to collect some fresh blooms, or, pick a bundle of aromatic herbs - sure to infuse some joy!

Start by taking everything out.

To make the most of your pantry space, pick containers that stack well and have enough space to store appropriate amounts so that you avoid being left with half full bags of produce.

Using clear containers with easy read labels make for the most visually appealing pantries.

School Station

The long awaited return to school roadmap is finally being realised, and there are many parents packing bags with smiles on their faces this week as schools commence a staggered start to in-class learning.

To make the back to school transition easier for the kids, and yourselves, try designating a specific area for bags, shoes, school books etc such as a School Station.

School clutter doesn't need to be messy, nor do storage hacks need to be expensive, and you can find more inspiration here to help you get back into routine.
