4th December 2020 / Prue Fletcher: It's Good To Be Home, Victoria

TRAVEL: IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME, VICTORIA

Victoria is set to come alive this Summer, as we ready to welcome in our neighbouring states and territories. For many of us, it will be the first chance we've had to spread our clipped wings since restrictions were first eased in November.

Not too far from where we are, the makers are making, the growers are growing and our regional friends are ready to welcome us in with open arms. From urban laneways to country roads, rustic railways and ocean-kissed highways – our home state is CALLING US BACK.

It's time to rediscover a sense of space – and a sense of place. Here are our top tips to help you explore Victoria safely this Summer!

Tourism Recovery Package: Victorian Government Initiative

Under this $28 million initiative, Victorians will be able to apply for a $200 voucher to entice more people to visit and stay in regional Victoria. Any Victorian who is planning on spending at least $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours in regional Victoria is free to apply. The scheme is expected to be up and running in December, ensuring the benefits are felt this summer – when businesses need it most.

120,000 vouchers will be made available this December. For details on how to apply and take advantage of this initiative, please visit Premier, Daniel Andrew's Victorian Government website.

Geelong & The Bellarine

There's nothing to 'wine' about when making the trip along the Northern Ring Road out of Melbourne, when you are met with some of the finest vineyards Victoria has to offer. Baie Winery is a small batch, family run winery who would love to see your smiling faces this Summer!

Looking for a little luxury? Look no further than Lon Retreat. Now home to 7 luxury suites and a mineral day spa, this 200 acre property in which it stands atop has been a working farm within the family for 100 years. Now a labor of love by creative husband and wife duo Claire & Rob Gemes, Lon Retreat is a 'wonderful source of food, productive work, nature inspired restoration, knowledge, recreation, healing and peace'.

Mornington Peninsula

Just an hour out of Melbourne, you'll find the fresh sea air of the Mornington Peninsula waiting to welcome you in. With it's easy commute, many Melbournians are now choosing to now call this sea-side destination home, and we can see why! Whether you're after a day trip or an extended summer long stay, the Peninsula has something for everyone.

Immerse yourself in the relaxed alfresco lifestyle that Sam Coverdale and his family have created at Red Hill's Polperro. If planning a stay, treat yourself to a holistic beauty experience at The Skin Nook where you'll be met by owner, Elise Gilchrist, Melbourne girl turned beachside convert. Elise's vision has always been to create a beautiful, sustainable foundation for her clients to come and nurture themselves. Once pampered and preened, pencil in a morning at Emu Plains Market where, beneath the sun dappled canopy of the stringbark, local traders transform this rustic bush setting into a sparkling trail of vibrant market stalls.

Live Shows

Melbourne has a long and celebrated tradition of nurturing live music, making Victoria the nation's Music and Arts capital. This Summer, let's rediscover our city's heartbeat and book a live show, supporting many of the local talents get back on their feet within Victoria.
