DESIGN & COLOUR TRENDS IN 2021

After almost year spent confined to own four walls, most of us have a new found attitude towards what we'd like our 'home life' to look and feel like. Whether that be aesthetically or energetically, the colours we choose and the décor we collect all work together to curate a sense of flow in our worlds.

So, we ask you to join us as we take a look into how you can flexibly work these trends into your home and work towards creating a deep sense of renewal for a brighter 2021.

COLOUR TRENDS

  • Pantone

In 2021, Pantone has taken the unusual step to name not one, but two colours as their shades of the year: Illuminating, a zingy yellow, and Ultimate Yellow, a pale gray.

'The selection of two independent colours highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it's not about one colour or one person, it's about more than one,' comments Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

    Dulux Colour Forecast.

Dulux has introduced 3 nurturing palettes that evoke a familiarity and comfort in the home: Retreat, Nourish & Reset.

Working in unison to create a sense of renewal, tones like muted ochre demonstrate the pull we are all feeling to live a little closer to nature.

DESIGN

  • Vintage

Recycled, antique, re-purposed. This is the statement of Vintage.

With restricted working hours came restricted incomes, and this look is the kind that makes you explore what you already have available to you. It's the kind of look that comes to life with layers and time, so don't feel the need to rush, wait for the pieces that really sing to you. Having a solid foundation and adding a bit of luxe through fabric and lighting will really help elevate this look!

  • Down to Earth

A revamped take on the 'beach-chic' fad, the 'Down to Earth' home incorporates colours and textures which have a hint of craft, letting warm tones coming to the fore. A palette which includes sun-kissed ambers, moss greens and soft olives bring to life the 'earthiness' of this style. Tactile fabrics are there to comfort and embody you, with Sisal floor coverings and French linen stealing the show.

As with the Vintage resurgence, we will also see a renewed focus on multi-purpose furniture. Aligning with the rise of the conscious consumerism comes the desire for our furniture to become part of the family again. Our longing to feel grounded, calm and connected to nature is expressed through the selections in our homes. A style that truly exists to satisfy our soul.
