25th July 2011: Watsonia Real Estate is a Prime Location for Families

A first time home purchase is a big decision. Deciding on the area to raise a family is even bigger. If you are considering a family home purchase Watsonia real estate may be the perfect place for you. The local military base helps keep the crime rate very low and the easy 16 km commute to Melbourne lets you have access to the larger job market in the urban area. Watsonia was originally owned by the Wurundjeri people and was named after the first property developer, Frank Watson.

The area remained predominantly rural even after the addition of the railway station that was purchased by local landowners in 1924. Even after the railway opened, the area did not really start to expand until the 1940s when Watsonia real estate property values started to become affordable. Now, Watsonia is considered a Melbourne suburb since expansion of the Melbourne urban area has pushed development out further and reduced the surrounding rural areas.
