29th September 2014: Fletchers Group News Update – 29 September

We experienced some fantastic weather over the weekend, perfect for celebrating one of Melbourne's biggest sporting events, the AFL Grand Final!

The REIV recorded just 22 auctions over the weekend due to the AFL Grand Final; therefore there is no official clearance rate recorded. Fletchers still saw strong crowds at many of the open for inspections, highlighting the strength in the market. There are 840 auctions expected to be called next weekend.

Although auction numbers were down, there were 353 private sales recorded, resulting in a total sales volume of $194.14 million! The REIV states that the number of private sales across Melbourne are surging, particularly in a number of outer suburbs. Croydon South topped the top 10 list of fastest growing suburbs, with a median number of days on the market at just 18! Ringwood East was not far behind with a median of 19 days on the market. These shorter times on the market generally indicate strength in the market, which is great news for home owners.
