Feature walls have become an extremely popular way of injecting some extra colour and personality into a room. They are also an excellent way of highlighting a particular aspect of a room. It's important not to overdo it though.

As tempting as it may be, try and use a feature wall in just one or two places in your house. A fireplace or smaller wall make an ideal feature. A large feature wall tends to dominate the space rather than accentuate it.

Choosing the right colour is the fun part. Personal taste will come into play here and with hundreds of different shades on offer, you are bound to find your own favourite. Blending with your existing home décor is advisable but not all together necessary.

Take the opportunity to be a little adventurous. If you don't like the end result simply try again with a different colour or paint a different wall.
