25th June 2020 / Prue Fletcher: The Best of Victoria’s Luxury Weekenders

This week, we've seen several lockdown restrictions re-instated across the state. Like many cooped up Victorians, I have made it my mission to escape the suburbs with my family and submerge ourselves in the fresh country air.

Whether it's my love of the eastern suburbs landscape or my strong Nillumbik ties, I find myself drawn to modern farm houses with a timeless heritage flair. The romance of rustic timbers juxtaposing the craftmanship of the AGA stovetop has all my senses roaring alongside the smell of red gum burning!

Here are my Top 5 Country Homes for you to escape to this Winter.

The Wensley – Wensleydale

Set high on the rolling hills of 80 acres, The Wensley is a bespoke timber, architectural house and shed built from recycled Oregon and Ironbark.

When you hire Wensleydale, you have exclusive access to the 80 acre property and use of the house and shed. Maximum occupancy is 10 guests, with 5 beds in total. Two bedrooms downstairs and a spacious loft bedroom upstairs housing ground level bunk nooks.

Having ticked this off my bucket list last Winter, I can refer with confidence that this idyllic, modern farm-house is one that nourishes all the senses!

Ellis House – Kyneton

'For as long as I can remember, I've dreamt of creating the perfect country escape, an ideal combination of rustic comfort and modern luxury. Ellis House is the culmination of a lifetime's quest. It started with the beautiful bare bones of a classic 1860's building, a key part of Kyneton's rich architectural history.

We lovingly renewed the house from door sill to chimney cap, carefully balancing respect for the building's original features with contemporary needs. Inspired by Belgium modern interiors and the desire for luxurious simplicity, we've harmonised the old and the new through light and colour. – Tracie Ellis, Owner.

Have booked to stay mid July for a girls weekend, Ellis House is the vision of Tracie Ellis (Owner of luxury homewares line @AuraHome), and we couldn't be more excited!

Accommodating up to four people, this chic hideaway is ideal for couples, girls' weekends, friends or small families seeking a tranquil escape.

With special discounts off at ECO Skin Care Spa when you stay, I can see myself sneaking in another girl's weekend this Winter!

The Yandoit Church – Yandoit

The Yandoit Church,, built in 1884 by Giacomo Satori, served the local Swiss-Italian community until 1993. Beautifully refurbished in 2016 it is now an award-winning property that can be enjoyed by those looking for an exceptional country getaway, only 15 min from Daylesford and 20 min to Castlemaine.

Housing up to 6 guests, the new 2 storey wing comprises 3 bedrooms with a spacious master bedroom on the ground floor featuring a luxurious en-suite with stone bath and rural views. Original artworks, textiles and ceramic pieces adorn the rooms and enhance this unique property.

Booking this beauty for September to witness it in all of its Spring time glory!
