Suburb Spotlight | Ringwood VIC 3134

The City of Maroondah has cemented its spot as a desirable destination and the suburb of Ringwood is no longer just a transient postcode...its residents are here to stay! Surrounded by great schools, both public and private, the redevelopment of Eastland shopping centre and the opening of the Eastlink freeway has made the City of Maroondah a satellite city!

Located just 23km from the city, it's perfectly positioned alongside Eastlink, making it the perfect gateway to Victoria's Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley Ranges. With the recent growth and development seen within the City of Maroondah, the Australian Government is providing funding of $60 million for new multi-level carparks in Ringwood, Croydon, Heathmont and at Heatherdale Station to ensure the suburb continues to be supported during its growth phase.

Complementing the impeccable public transport system (Lilydale and Belgrave Lines), families are treated to a wide offering of schools in the area. Most popular are the Ringwood Secondary College, Aquinas College and Yarra Valley Grammar. An endless amount of sporting facilities are also on offer, with the State Diving Centre and Regional Aquatic Centre located at Aquanation, right across the road from Ringwood train station. If that wasn't enough, state of the art library, RELM, is also conveniently located right within the same precinct. It just keeps getting better!

Enjoying a casual Sunday isn't hard when you live in Ringwood. Whether you're an active resident and wish to enjoy a quiet stroll around the 8.5 hectare Ringwood Lake Park or take the kids on a morning adventure in the Playspace. Here you'll find cubby houses and water play, track glides, rope courses and balance platforms - something to fuel every child's imagination.

Town Square has been dubbed the hub of the city's restaurant scene, with a list of modern eateries emerging such as 400 Gradi East, Hunky Dory & Suburban Dining & Rooftop, locals are gifted with an open-air dining experience that rivals Melbourne's Fed Square. Located in the heart of the precinct, The Suburban houses a restaurant, public bar, rooftop bar and courtyard with private dining spaces positioned throughout the venue's three story architecturally designed space. It offers a seasonal menu, garden parties along with drinks, eats & beats! Definitely the place to be!

The City of Maroondah prides themselves on ensuring their residents that are frail/aged, have a disability or are socially isolated receive the support that's required for them to remain active members of the community. Activities like walking football, active and healthy aging initiative, road safety, social inclusion and well-being programs and much, much more are available at your fingertips via the council's website.

They also have an extensive offering of community group sessions which cover just about everything! Have you ever tried composting or are interested in a fun run at night? Head to the City of Maroondah website for a full list of their courses and events - https://www.maroondah.vic.gov.au/Home

And as if the suburb hasn't showed off enough already, over recent years Ringwood has really become famous for its Eastland shopping complex. Particularly after it's redevelopment in 2015, which attracted the likes of superstores such as IKEA and Cost Co to set up shop in the South East.

With the median property price in Ringwood currently sitting at $938,000* and an average rental of $450 per week* it's no wonder with a price tag of nearly half that of Melbourne's East, is a reason why the South East is seeing so much growth. Fletchers Maroondah Director Reilly Waterfield believes that 'in the wake of the pandemic, there are parts of Ringwood which offer quiet streets with big blocks (and a lot with older homes), which offer families space, a great lifestyle and promising future growth. With such a competitive price point and low interest rates, it has allowed many first-time buyers to secure their dream of home ownership.'

After taking a closer look into what is drawing the crowds in and the prices up, it's easy to see why Ringwood and its surrounding suburbs is now a centre for both Victoria's multicultural and affluent communities.

Here Reilly gives us an insiders look into how to spend a weekend in Ringwood:

Market – Park Orchards Farmers Market occurs the 3rd Sat of every month at Park Orchards Primary and is always full of delicious homemade goods and quality fruit and veg.
Coffee - Vanilla Blanche in the Ringwood North shopping village (cnr Oban and Warrandyte roads) make a perfect brew.
Dinner – Cinque Italian also located in RN village. Work your way through the menu and don't forget dessert. Magnificent!

Something for the kids – McAlpin reserve on Wonga Rd is amazing! With paths around the lake perfect for a bike or scooter ride, a wonderful play space, plenty of shade and BBQ areas, it is a real must go for families.
Art & Culture – The fantastic Karralyka centre is located right here in Ringwood and always has something fantastic going on. The auditorium is beautiful and the staff do a tremendous job bringing a range of entertainment to our community.
After work drinks - I like The Suburban. It's tucked away in Eastland shopping centre and with a rooftop bar open til late and a brilliant, locally sourced array of snacks and beverages you will be comfortable for a while.
