Formerly an area where masts for ships were cut down, Upwey has emerged into a highly sought after eastern locale. Located 32 kilometres away from the CBD, Upwey provides a relaxed family-orientated lifestyle, away from the hustle and bustle of city living.
The township was originally known as Mast Gully to pay tribute to the source of income for most of its population. Today, Upwey is a flourishing community to over 6,000 residents. The main street offers a variety of cafes and shops, instilling a traditional community village atmosphere.
An area rich in parkland and forest vegetation, Upwey is a tourist destination with many people visiting for the picturesque mountain views and nature walks. The community is predominantly comprised of families who have the choice of numerous schools and recreational facilities.
