In an area known for its local produce, Monbulk has grown to be a thriving township located right in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges. The suburb’s name is derived from the Aboriginal word, ‘monbolloc’, which means ‘hiding place in the hills’ and this is the very centre of Monbulk’s appeal.
As one of the larger townships in the area, Monbulk offers its residents a choice of several schools and a variety of sporting and leisure clubs. The suburb is well serviced with many diversified farms growing fruit and nursery plants. The main shopping strip offers both residents and the abundance of tourists several cafes and shops.
Monbulk is predominately a residential area with a profusion of beautiful wildlife. Homes in the area have generally maintained their period architecture, although many have been updated for more of a modern feel. With stunning city and scenic views, Monbulk enjoys close proximity to Melbourne’s CBD while still maintaining its suburban feel.
