Croydon & Croydon North Suburb Guide

Croydon and Croydon North Suburb Profile Information

Located 27 kilometres from the CBD in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Croydon is a prosperous family-oriented eastern suburb with a diverse population of over 23 thousand people.

Croydon dates back to the 1840s when land was originally utilized for grazing and was first called ‘White Flats'. Today, Croydon has a thriving business hub consisting of almost two hundred traders. Main Street is home to a wealth of cafes and eateries, offering a range of different cuisines- we recommend Kofi Beans for their Fairtrade organic coffee and middle-eastern cuisine.

With an abundance of reserves and parkland, residents of Croydon enjoy ample sporting facilities. Croydon Park provides a swimming pool, oval and playground and Town Park provides an athletics track, skate park, tennis court and walking tracks. The library, aquatic centre and City of Maroondah service centre are all located around the lake in the park.

Each year Croydon Park hosts the Maroondah Festival which is an exceptional showcase of both local and international artists, which attracted over 25 thousand people in 2013.

There are seven primary schools and four secondary schools in the area, providing families with numerous different options for education. Swinburne University also has a campus in Norton Road offering TAFE courses and apprenticeships.

Croydon North is predominately a residential area with an abundance of parkland. Candlebark Walk Reserve offers a pathway through to natural bushland as well as a lake and wetlands. Croydon North is also home to Yarrunga Reserve and Hochkins Ridge Flora Reserve which offer a vast range of native flora and fauna.
