Ashwood Suburb Information

Despite a majority of the area being dedicated to education and recreational use, the pocket-sized suburb of Ashwood on the eastern side of Warrigal Road some 14 km south-east of Melbourne CBD, comfortably accommodates over 12,000 residents in just 2.6 km2.

Over the past 60 years, Ashwood has transformed from a mainly market garden and poultry-farm area into a fully-settled residential area. In fact, houses account for 80% of its dwelling styles.

Ashwood's boundaries are Huntingdale Road in the east, the Glen Waverley line to the south, Warrigal Road in the west and parts of Gardiners Creek to the north.

Jordanville station is just over Huntingdale Road. Warrigal Road buses link with Box Hill shops and TAFE, and Southland shopping centre. Melbourne's "Smart Bus" service also runs along Warrigal Road as it rings Melbourne's suburbs from Mordialloc to Altona.

Ashwood has a primary and a secondary school plus a special school that caters for students with mild intellectual disabilities.

Shopping facilities consist of a few small clusters of local shops and a large supermarket at the Warrigal Road/High Street Road intersection. Facilities at Ashwood Reserve on the banks of Gardiners Creek include shared cycling/walking paths and formal sporting facilities.
