Queenscliff Suburb and Real Estate Information

Situated on Bellarine Peninsula and the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, Queenscliff's first residents came in the 1850s. The settlement received a fillip 20 years later when a rail service connected the town to Geelong. Today, that rail service only runs 16 km from Drysdale - now as a tourist attraction. The Bellarine Rail Trail is a walking and cycling track that largely follows the railway line.

Historical buildings abound in and around Queenscliff's commercial centre. The ornate Grand Vue hotel has been restored to its former glory. Other guest houses and hotels in Gellibrand Street overlook parkland to the sea views beyond.

Most of Queenscliff's history, population and commerce are enmeshed with the sea. Its large safe harbour is home for many fishing vessels and associated fish processing and marketing enterprises. The Queenscliff to Sorrento Ferry Service provides an invaluable alternative road connection for tourists as well as local trade.

Queenscliff is 104 km from Melbourne and 30 km from Geelong, separated by a cape from nearby sister town Point Lonsdale. Permanent residents number around 1,400. The annual seafood and music festivals keep Queenscliff firmly on Victoria's tourist map. The town has a primary school, a lifesaving club and a yacht club, shopping centre and plenty of parks.

Queenscliff real estate sells for a 50% premium over the regional average. Houses for sale currently fetch between $500,000 and $1 million - townhouses and apartments range from $400,000 to $500,000.
