Malvern East Suburb Profile Information
Located 11km south-east from Melbourne’s CBD, Malvern East is bounded to the north by Wattletree Road and Gardiner’s Creek, to the east by Warrigal Road, to the south by the Princes Highway (Dandenong Road) and to the west by Tooronga Road.
The area is primarily residential, and features many California Bungalows and brick veneer homes. Malvern East also has small shopping centres near the two railway stations on its northern boundary, Darling and East Malvern, as well as a shopping strip that runs along Waverley Road to the tram terminus at Darling Road. The ever-expanding Chadstone Shopping Centre located on Dandenong Road is a popular attraction, and features over 500 stores.
There are a number of primary schools, including Malvern Valley Primary School and the Holy Eucharist Parish Primary School. The suburb’s educational facilities also include Holmesglen Institute of TAFE.
Malvern East has many sporting facilities, including the Malvern East Tennis Club, Ardrie Park Tennis Club, and Malvern Valley Golf Course. It also boasts one of the largest Australian Rules Football Auskick clinics in Australia, held on Saturday mornings during winter.
Malvern East also has a number of popular public open spaces, most notably Hedgeley Dene Gardens, Central Park and the Urban Forest Reserve.
