Balwyn North is located 10 kilometres east of the Melbourne business district and is also known as North Balwyn. As part of the post-war development plan, Balwyn North is recognised as the first of its kind to be part of suburbia. With large residential homes on generous blocks and few industrial sites Balwyn North was the ideal family suburb. Today it is part of the Government region known as the City of Boroondara. The population as of the last census was 20,300.
Balwyn North would be best described as established and leafy that generates a relaxed and easy going feel. 50% of the population is made up of established and older established couples and families. Mature singles and couples together with the independent elderly make up 35% and about 15% are young couples and independent youth.
There are numerous primary schools in Balwyn North like St Bedes, Greythorn, Bellevue Park. For higher education there is the Balwyn High School. The main shopping centre is known as The Village and is located on Doncaster road. Close by are a number of other shopping precincts in East Balwyn and Belmore Heights.
To travel around and through Balwyn North you could catch the number 48 tram or take the bus or perhaps you prefer bike tracks that are layed out and connect with the Yarra River Trail.
Parks and gardens abound in Balwyn North. There are numerous parks that are will suit any type of mood you have during the day. Some of the parks you may wish to visit are Hisplop Park, Gordon Barnard Reserve, Macleay Park, Greythorn Park, Leigh Park, Koonung Creek Reserve which all are connected or close to Glass Creek.
